Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Educators at this level are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other educators.

Units of Competency

In order to gain the CHC50121 – Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, a student must successfully complete a total of seventeen (15) units of competency, comprising of:

  • Twelve (12) core units,
  • Three (3) elective units, consisting of:
    • 2 units from the electives listed on training.gov
    • up to 1 unit from the list on training.gov, elsewhere in the CHC Community Services Training Package, or any other current Training Package or accredited course.

The selection of electives chosen must be guided by the job outcome sought, local sector requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.

Entry Requirements

There are no educational pre-requisites for entry into this qualification. However, Integrity Education Group requires students to be over 18 years of age at the course commencement. Students will need to complete work-placement for this course, and therefore, must be able to obtain a satisfactory National Police check and Working With Children check.

 

Integrity Education Group also requires all prospective students to undertake a formal pre-training review (PTR) and language, literacy and numeracy assessment to determine the suitability and readiness of the student for the program.  During the this process, the Integrity Education Group staff will ensure the following are discussed/determined:

 

  • Career and educational aspirations
  • Suitability for the intended program and subsequent industry
  • Literacy and numeracy capabilities
  • Digital capability and capacity

Delivery & Assessment

To ensure we cater for all our student needs, students will have the choice of delivery methods, including:

Face to face on campus classes

Virtual (online classes)

A blend of both face to face on campus classes and virtual classes

All assessments can be completed online or in paper base format, and all practical assessments will be completed in the workplace or specially designed simulated environment.

Integrity Education Group will monitor your activities to ensure reasonable progress is being made, and our highly qualified and supportive trainers and assessors will be there to provide any additional support you may need outside of class time.

Credit Transfer

In order for us to award a credit transfer a student will need to provide us with a Statement of Attainment that listed the exact unit and code that matches the unit in the qualification they wish to credit transfer.  If the unit code or name do no match exactly then a student may wish to apply for recognition of prior learning.

Recognition of Prior Learning

In order for us to award RPL, a student need to provide sufficient evidence of prior study and/or work experience that demonstrates their skills and knowledge in unit of competency.  RPL will require students to complete a portfolio of evidence and participate in a competency conversation and practical demonstration.  RPL does incur an addition cost of up to $450 per unit.

The applicable amount of fees depends on individual circumstances at the time of enrolment e.g. whether you’re offered a government subsidised place or a full fee-paying place.
